![]() ![]() It looks like new puzzles have been added to the game that force you to think creatively when it comes to making your way from the top of the level to the exit towards the bottom. In total, there will be four new playable characters in Spelunky 2 which include Ana Spelunky, Margaret Tunnel, Roffy D. Spelunky 2 will offer a wealth of new features for players to enjoy including new levels, new weapons, new characters, the introduction of mounts, and more. It’ll serve as a sequel to the first Spelunky game which released all the way back in 2008. On September 15, Spelunky 2 will hit PlayStation 4 and PC. Now, we finally have a confirmed release date for Spelunky 2. We’ve received a few updates in the years following its announcement including plans to release the game in 2019 before later delaying the game’s release to 2020. Spelunky 2 has been in development for quite a while, having first been announced by Mossmouth back in 2017. What made things even better is the way the trailer ended… with an official release date! It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything in regards to the state of the game’s development, so seeing a trailer for it was extremely exciting. And now that Spelunky 2 is finally out on PS4, you can take the first steps on that journey.During Sony’s State of Play, we got a brand new trailer for Spelunky 2. The more you play, the more personal your journey becomes. There are people to meet, a world to explore, secrets to uncover, and stories to create… and how you choose to pursue that is up to you. Ultimately, beating Spelunky 2 is a goal of the game, but it’s not THE goal. Or maybe the game gives you none of those things and you find yourself making the best of a machete and a turkey mount! Or perhaps you’ll willingly trade the shotgun’s blasting power for the crossbow’s accuracy. ![]() And depending on the situation, a powerpack (a new item that lets you throw extra large bombs) might be the better choice than a jetpack. Being a law-abiding shopper or an occasional thief can be just as effective as being a cold-blooded killer (and it’s probably safer, too). ![]() In Spelunky 2, however, while that’s certainly still a viable strategy, there are many other viable strategies. To give you an example, experienced Spelunky 1 players generally rob every shop they come across in their hunt for jetpacks and shotguns, because, simply put, those are the best items for the toughest challenges in the game. In Spelunky 2, I wanted the design to encourage players to try new things all the time, even after hundreds of runs. In many games, including Spelunky 1, the design tends to funnel the player toward a certain optimal way of playing over time. One of my main goals with this sequel was to offer players even more opportunities to be creative in how they approach the game, whether it’s the equipment you use, the paths you take, or how you engage with the various characters you encounter along the way. Spelunky’s high difficulty gets a lot of attention, but I think of it as more of a fun backdrop for players to express themselves. ![]()
